The Yarn Maven is a dream come true for owner Sue Shimomura, who grew up in a family of knitters. When she was just four years old, her mum, tired of being asked, gave in and taught her to knit. (Mum tells the story a little less gently; she says it was to shut her up.) By the time Sue was eight years old, she was knitting hats and mittens, then baby sweaters, and soon, adult sweaters, especially aran knits.
An entirely new realm of knitting was introduced to the world when Ravelry went live in 2006, and Sue discovered lace and many traditional styles. She now knits for the shop, her grandchildren, and occasionally her husband, Eric aka Mr. Maven.
The Yarn Maven opened in early 2017, and we are very excited to have met so many new friends who love yarn, knitting and crochet as much as we do.
Your enthusiasm for the shop has encouraged us to grow, so we have increased our inventory to provide more yarn, supplies, classes and events to you and the rest of our knitting and crocheting community. We even moved a couple of times when we needed more space. In 2018 we purchased a beautiful brick building that was a general store back in the 1800s, and are very happy that The Yarn Maven has a permanent home.
We appreciate all of you who come from near and far to visit!
